I have to POINT THIS OUT:
Tonton Contreras’s mentality is always better than those admins of Kapuso Warriors, and of course, the diehard Marcos supporters/loyalists. Here’s one thing: Contring (Tonton-sensei) has a much more self-actualized, pragmatic, and authentic form of liberalism than you could ever imagine. He is a DDS and pro-BBM supporter, yet he does not give in to the nonsensical hype called, “Tito Sotto and Manny Pacquiao deserve to become senators because they’re not Yellow!”
This is the worst insult to all thinking and intellectual humankind.
GRANTED, Sotto and Pacquiao are not yellow, still they’re fully qualified to be categorized in the “trapo’t balimbing” category. No wonder, the thinking Yellows and leftists KNOW BETTER than the pro-Marcos DDS who are mostly prude conservatives. Also, they should be careful what they wish for: Both Sotto and Pacquiao voted for Gina Lopez, who is obviously coming from an OLIGARCH family. Hate to break it to you, but she’s the FACE of regression due to the following reasons: 1.) She doesn’t realize that her enemies should be the mining oligarchy; 2.) yet she plays favoritism due to “utang na loob” syndrome.
She’s well-liked by the prude conservatives (of course, represented by Sotto and Pacman), and of course, the liberal elitists (of course, represented by the Yellows). So, if you’re pro-Marcos and a Kapuso Warriors admin, be careful what you wish for! The people you’re defending might qualify to be a “Trojan horse,” so to speak.
Contring is the true Thinking Pinoy, not TP
It is disgusting when RJ Nieto/ThinkingPinoy is pro-Sotto, while Raffy Gutierrez and Bb. Maharlika is pro-Pacquiao.
I do not know why, but I have my utmost respect to Contring-sensei when it comes to his logical skills. Why can’t he teach CRITICAL THINKING instead? After all, he makes people overthink (well, sometimes lol), and he challenges people to think OUTSIDE politics.
Why can’t we think critically like Tonton-sensei? Are we afraid to be called, “ANG GULO MO!”, or rather, “ANO BA TALAGA ATENG!? ANO BA TALAGA KUYANG!?”
It’s hard to be an iconoclast, yet his way of thinking is really damn good—self-actualized. ICONOCLAST, like how he proudly and fearlessly describes himself. STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART. NO-NONSENSE.
Thinking like him is more than something—that’s why he’s my fave DDS online personality, so to speak. Here are some reasons:
1.) He reconciles (though informally) Asian values with Western values – That’s why, he is lecturing Sass Rogando Sasot, regarding culture. While Sass preaches Western culture, sometimes it goes out-of-control because if you use titles, she thinks it’s already considered “SLAVE MENTALITY,” when insisting on Asian values doesn’t always mean, “Using titles means slave mentality.” It does not always work that way—honorifics are also important; but in the West, they find it useless, since it’s IN THEIR CULTURE to have an egalitarian society. Also, European languages aren’t really too keen on having Asian honorifics such as “-ssi/-san,” or even “Lao (insert name).” If you think it’s “useless” to have honorifics, THINK AGAIN.
Look at Japan—even though titles and honorifics are VERY IMPORTANT to them, at the end of the day, regardless of what social status you belong to, you basically eat the same food, and vice versa. Same with Korean culture.
In fact, East Asians are one of the most straightforward ethnicities you will ever encounter—they may not be “straightforward” by Western standards, but they DO speak their mind. Only that, they do it politely.
2.) He always tells us, like Nuseir Yassin of Nas Daily, “Never let politics get into your way of your friendship” – That is true. I may not agree with some people’s politics, but it’s okay, since we should basically NEVER talk about politics. However, there’s a need to talk about politics is for the country—can’t we simply fight back against the sh*t system that took away the dignity of Filipinos who had no choice but to become OFWs?
Call Contring-sensei “stupid” for going back to the Philippines after he finished his graduate studies in Hawaii, yet in my book, it was NEVER a stupid move. People like him are BADLY needed in a world of simple-minded/small-minded people who think like bobotantes—you know the halupagung jejolmang who watches teleseryes and eats pagpag for breakfast, lunch, and dinner; and cannot even hold a decent conversation, whether in English or in Tagalog—and yet, have the fucking nerve to complain about heavy traffic, when in fact they might be the same people buying and buying vehicles non-stop yet do not follow simple traffic rules.
No wonder, be an Antonio Contreras in world of simple-minded people.
3.) His liberalism is Eastern – Western-style liberalism tends to be ideal and quite elitist-ic, whereas Eastern-style liberalism is more authentic and pragmatic, making it more in-line with realism. Here, you don’t stick to what is ideal—but rather, balancing ideal and realist principles.
So here’s the thing:
- Authenticity + Pragmatism = progression
- Absence of these 2 = regression
Despite the fact that he has studied in Hawaii for his graduate education, he will always make sure, Eastern values should be in harmony with Western values. Insisting on just one doesn’t even make sense.
To understand Asian culture (Eastern Asian, to be exact), you need to have a holistic way of thinking—somehow, this explains why Asian languages have no concrete rules.
4.) To sum it up: It’s more fun to be complex than to be simplistic – Contring-sensei is pretty much hard to understand, unless you really do have a COMMON GROUND.
Also, he’s the one who has a good style of teaching—he does not limit himself to the classroom. He also teaches OUTSIDE the classroom, which is why you get to learn critical thinking in an unorthodox manner, FOR FREE. So, love him or hate him, he’s the only one who thinks like a true intellectual and a true supporter of the president. If you tend to be anti-Sotto and Pacquiao at the same time, chances are you won’t be a fan of US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin—this holds true for many reasons: Conservatives tend to resist change; while liberals tend to embrace change slowly, and surely.
5.) If you want a rebuttal of Paul Joseph Watson’s tirades—better go for Contring-sensei – In fact, PJW’s logic is more on the prude-ish side, so people would rather call him a scumbag.
Conservatives tend to be more honest and stick to higher beauty standards, while liberals tend to have the “pwede na ‘yan” mentality when it comes to beauty standards. Here, I can say, the liberals tend to be pretentious sometimes, but in Contring’s case, he’s far from being that notion—he is fearlessly honest with his sentiments, and would tell us, even though Jover Laurio is obviously unattractive, we should never attack her for her looks.
He’s right. Only a liberal like him has the guys to say that making fun of your enemy’s appearance, even though it is not a necessity, isn’t something desirable. He would tell us, make a rebuttal but making fun of someone’s looks is ad hominem.
Also, liberals tend to return the favor when someone is spewing signs of intolerance—which the conservatives would tolerate, if the statement is agreeable with them. That’s why, speaking of homophobic taunts, Contring has the Filthy Frank mindset of saying, “JUST STOP! STOP IT, STOP, NO!”
I have a lot more to say, but that would be all for now. If you think, Contring has a vague mindset—think again.
